Tesla Power India Private Limited : Tesla has announced plans to set up 5,000 “battery Refurbishing centers” in India by 2025, with more than 500 already operating across the country. This strategic move reinforces Tesla Power India’s commitment to the principle of ‘Circular Economy’ and ‘Sustainable Environment’. The proprietary EBEP technology significantly extends the life of all types of lead-acid batteries, including tall tubular inverter batteries and VRLA UPS batteries, providing a cost-effective solution for extending battery life by 1-2 years refurbishing them. Under the Restoration brand name, refurbished batteries are sold to customers for almost half the price of a new inverter battery with a warranty.
The introduction of the Restore brand is in line with the 2022 Battery Waste Management Regulations, in which CPCB recognized battery refurbishing as a permitted business activity. The change in policies and regulations will open up a new service sector and around 30,000 battery recycling centers are expected to open in India, providing employment to more than 1 million people. About 10 million lead-acid batteries are disposed of and replaced in India every year, at a cost of Rs 40,000 crore to the Indian economy. This strategic move aims to address the environmental risks associated with battery replacement and improper disposal and is in line with the Government of India’s commitment to promote circular economy and sustainable development through innovative battery waste management policies.
