Here are the top updates on Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest

The Delhi Police have beefed up the security of the city with multi-layer barricading on roads leading to BJP’s headquarters. The action was taken as the Aam Aadmi Party has called a protest outside BJP’s office in Delhi at 10 am. The traffic police have requested commuters to avoid routes leading to central Delhi in anticipation of a huge gathering of AAP workers.

Roads leading to the BJP headquarters in central Delhi and the ED office were closed. According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, on the advice of the police, the ITO metro station will remain closed from 8 am to 6 pm today.

After his arrest, Arvind Kejriwal was taken to the office of the Enforcement Directorate in central Delhi around 11.25 pm. He was sitting in the back seat of a sports utility vehicle.

A 10-member team of the Enforcement Directorate, led by another director-level officer, conducted searches on Arvind Kejriwal Flagstaff Road in Delhi’s Civil Lines area. The Delhi CM was arrested two hours after the emergency team reached his house. The officials questioned Arvind Kejriwal before arresting him.

Arvind Kejriwal will appear in court today. The law enforcement agency will attempt to arrest him for questioning. This is the 16th person arrested by the ED in this case, including AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh. Arvind Kejriwal had ignored nine summonses issued by the authorities for questioning.

The BJP said Kejriwal had reaped what he sowed and claimed that the law had finally caught up with him after years of trying to evade it. Delhi said: “Mr Kejriwal’s arrest is a symbol of eradicating corruption and Mr Kejriwal should resign immediately. It is an insult to constitutional norms for a leader of Kejriwal’s party to say that Mr Kejriwal will run the government from prison,” said Janata Party leader Virendra Sachdeva.
